Blooming marvellous

Everyone loves flowers. So when it’s chilly outside and the fields and meadows look bare, it’s time to embroider your own. This design is shown on a small handmade cushion made from oddments of fabric. It works just as well on a plain ready-made cushion but if you want to make your own, see page 106.

Get stitching...

First transfer the flowers pattern on page 116 onto your cushion or fabric panel. The width of the fabric panel should be greater than the height.

Work the stalks of the three flowers in stem stitch using three strands of olive green embroidery thread. Using the same thread, work the leaves of the middle flower in stem stitch.

Make the leaves of the outer flowers in stem stitch using three strands of lime green embroidery thread, adding a row of running stitch up the middle of the leaves of the tall flower.
