Chapter Eight

Though Cody was glowing with his new role as an alpha’s mate, his new life was far from squeaky clean.

Not that he thought it would be, considering all the things that Dante had had to do as one of the alphas in charge of defending the pack.

Because of their newly mated status, and the fact that they had a pup on the way, they were given a house of their own, which was smaller than the one that Dante had been living in before, but just the right size for the two of them, with an extra bedroom that was already furnished with everything Cody had picked out from the local stores that were just outside of the city.

Conner was starting to grumble about the fact that he was going to have to build more houses on the pack’s property if everyone continued to find a mate and reproduce, but ultimately, Cody was pretty sure his alpha didn’t mind, and he knew that Dante loved having Cody all to himself. He’d proved it when they’d both christened every room in their new home with sex.

Cody had never been taken on a kitchen table before, and the experience was riveting, just as much as when he woke his mate up with a blow job in the mornings.

He wasn’t sure if this was proof that his fear of sex was no longer there, or if it was just a sign that he only didn’t fear it because he was with Dante.

Either way, Cody was beginning to understand just why people enjoyed sex so much. It was fun when it was done with someone who was loved.

But they didn’t get more than two days before having their first argument. Their first real one, since Cody didn’t count that catastrophe that had happened back at the hotel as an anything. They hadn’t even spoken to each other in that time, so this was completely different.

Dante’s wolf-teeth were out, and his hands were clenched into fists. Considering the fact that his claws were beginning to form, and Cody could tell this because he was watching Dante’s thumbs, he was surprised that there wasn’t blood dripping from his palms.

“I’m going to rip his head off!” Dante yelled, and because of the teeth in his mouth, some of the words were slurred.

It didn’t make Cody any less worried about it, though. “You can’t do that. If you attack him the rest of his pack will act,” Cody said.

“Conner’s pack is bigger. He’ll back me up,” Dante said, and his muscles were bulging with the urge to shift. Cody was half-impressed that Dante was holding himself back, and he was also terrified about what could possibly happen if he did just up and decide that he was going to go and attack a leading alpha.

“He didn’t do anything,” Cody said. “Not…not really. I’m fine.”

“He touched you,” Dante said, and his eyes were flashing to red. “That dirty motherfucker put his mouth on your scar. I should rip his face off and feed it to the wolves.
