After dinner, Hunter wasn’t ready for the evening to end. He’d never meant to kiss her like he did, but now that he had, he was as confused as ever. How was it possible that kissing Rylee could make him feel like this? This wasn’t part of the plan.

“It’s a nice night. Would you like to see my boat?” he asked as they walked outside the yacht club.

“Sure.” She was more receptive than he thought she would be, and that was a good sign. Was she feeling it, too?

He held out his hand to her, and after studying it for a moment, she placed her soft hand in his. It felt so natural there—another thing he wasn’t expecting.

Hunter got on the boat first, and then helped Rylee on after she’d slipped her shoes off at the dock. He was impressed that she knew boat etiquette, but where did that come from?

It was dark now, and the moon shone down on the water, casting a silver glow on the harbor.

“Come on, let’s go up front,” he told her, allowing her to walk ahead of him.

Once at the front of the bow, the light of the moon illuminated her face, and somehow, she was growing even more beautiful by the minute. A gentle breeze blew a long strand of hair across her face, and he reached out to tuck it behind her ear. She looked up at him and held his gaze as he fought with himself on whether or not to kiss her. He wanted nothing more than to feel her lips on his once more, just to see if he had been imagining the chemistry between them, and if, by chance, she felt it, too.

Rylee turned away, as if she sensed what he was about to do, and faced the water. “It’s beautiful, Hunter. But really, I should be getting home to Liam.”

Perhaps he had been imagining it. She wasn’t the slightest bit interested in him. That was clear. From this point on, he’d have to keep it strictly professional and keep a clear head.

That would mean no more kissing.
