The sun had just set by the time I rolled into the garage. I was tired, hungry, and had spent the entire day in a cloud of general pissed-offedness.

After playing CEO, I’d driven straight to the hospital to relieve Ax from his shift of watching over Phoenix in the ICU. From there, I’d met Gage in the woods, where he and several of our staff were still combing the woods for Celeste, which turned up nothing. Nothing, nada, zilch. My already non-existent patience was waning. Especially when I’d told Ax I was going to swing by the police station on my way home to light a fire under the blues’ asses, to which he replied, ‘hell no, you’re not.’ Apparently, he’d heard about the conference call earlier and decided my leadership skills were having an off day. Fine. Fan-fucking-tastic. Like I gave a damn.

I slid off my bike and stalked across the garage. There was only one thing that calmed me when I was that restless—a few solo hours in the range. Bypassing the house, where I knew I’d face a firestorm of questions from Dallas about the conference call, I traded my Harley for a four-wheeler and took off into the darkening evening.

Steele Shadows had two shooting ranges, one indoor and one outdoor. Phoenix had established a rule about no outdoor shooting after dark after an unfortunate incident with our neighbor, old man Erikson, and a poorly timed ricochet. Damn thing blew the hunting cap right off his bald head. He was in an uproar while I was in stitches. Teach him to wander around our property at night.

I pulled up to the long, metal building that sat below the main house.

Pop, pop, pop!

The muffled sound of gunshots told me I wasn’t the only one in need of blowing off some steam. I took note of the golf cart parked to the side, then pushed through the front door and scanned the room. The first thing that surprised me was the lack of music blaring through the systems. The second was that the building was mostly dark, with only a dim light over the last stall. A single spotlight illuminated a target with the center blown to smithereens.

Not bad.

Pop… pop!

A few more shots, this one to the right of the center.

I crossed the concrete floor, glancing in each stall until I came to the end.

My brows shot up.

Wearing shooting glasses and noise-cancelation earmuffs that were two sizes too big, Lexi York was armed, ready, and laser-focused on her target. A grin tugged at my lips as I stepped back, out of sight of her peripheral.

More shots, this time, left of center.

I skimmed her shooting stance, the hug of her worn Levi’s, the way the Steele Shadows sweatshirt swamped her body, hiding her curves like a mask only making me want to see more. Her fuzzy eskimo boots from earlier had been traded with a pair of flip flops. Freshly painted pink toenails sent a rush of blood to my cock and my mind wondering what it would be like to have them in my mouth.
