Chapter Twenty-Two
Charlotte stared at him, the cold suddenly forgotten "You mean that."
"Hell, yeah. There's no time in life for games. We both know that." He was shivering now, as he took the clothes from Mari. "Thanks."
She nodded, her gaze thoughtful as she looked back and forth between them. "I'm going to go check on Ben. You guys are all set, right?"
"Yeah." Mack touched Mari's arm as she started to get out. "Thank you for coming. All of you."
She smiled at him. "Mack, you're family now. We'd never let you down." She looked over at Charlotte. "You, too, sweetie."
Tears of exhaustion and relief filled Charlotte's eyes. "Thanks."
"You bet." Mari hopped down, leaving them alone
Mack turned to Charlotte. "Did you get dry socks?"
She held them up. "I'll put them on. You need to get dressed."
Mack shook his head. "Your hands are shaking too much. Just let me do it." He crouched at her feet and quickly pulled the socks over her frozen toes, his touch gentle, even though his fingers were icy cold.
Her heart turned over when she saw how badly he was shivering. He'd absolutely refused to take care of himself until he was finished taking care of her. "Thank you," she whispered.
He flashed a grin at her as he finished with the second sock. "You bet."
After wrapping her up in the blanket that Mari had withheld until Charlotte got the dry clothes on, he stood up then and peeled off his frozen sweatshirt. He got the new one on fast, but she could see his muscles were trembling visibly from the cold.
Once his boots were off, he went for his jeans, the frozen denim not easy to peel off his legs, giving her too much time to forget to look away.
His thighs were pure corded steel, even with the muscles shivering so much. His butt was sculpted perfection. His calves were chiseled, and his biceps were the stuff of dreams.
He looked over, grinning when he caught her checking him out. "I love that."
Heat infused her frozen cheeks, and she dragged her gaze away, staring at the wall of the plane. "Love what?"
"Love that you can't keep your eyes off me."
She looked at him. "You don't mind?"
"Mind? Hell no." He laughed. "I'm a guy. We have no modesty anyway, but with you? If there's a chance you want to look at me half as much as I want to look at you, I'm a lucky bastard." He pulled the sweatpants on, sliding his manly bits out of view a split second before she lost her battle not to check him out.
She hugged the blanket around her and snuggled closer to Bear, still unable to fight off the shivering. She was cold. So freaking cold. "You want to see me naked?" Anything to keep her from thinking about how bone-deep cold she was.
"Does that scare you?" His voice was gentle as he sat down next to her and pulled a spare pair of socks over his feet. "That I'm attracted to you?"
She snuggled against him, trying to access his body heat.
