Chapter 6: Night One, Into The Lair of the Beast

I called her from the lobby to let her know I was on my way up. She didn’t answer but I wasn’t surprised. She was probably still getting ready. She took forever even when we weren’t going anywhere important. She had been with Chelsie since noon so was probably just adding the finishing touches.

I walked up to her door and knocked, waiting patiently. We still had plenty of time to get to my dad’s place and even if we ran late, I wasn’t too worried about it. I just wanted to prove to him that I was bringing a real-life woman to his party at the Governor’s place. It would be just like me to dress up a rubber sex doll in a dress and haul her under my arm right through the front door.

Not that it wouldn’t have been hilarious, I wasn’t about to call my dad’s bluff about cutting me off, not this time. Something about his demeanor had changed. He was serious about running for office and I wasn’t dumb enough to come between him and something he wanted.

The door opened and I found myself stunned. She looked like a young Jackie Kennedy. Her dress was simple but flattering. She didn’t look so different that she was unrecognizable. She was still the same Megan that had bailed me out of jail a few short nights ago, but she had an air about her, something almost regal that I couldn’t place. Her hair was pulled back tastefully into an elegant bundle of dark waves that cascaded around her shoulders like a waterfall.

Chelsie came through with her suitcase full of goodies and made her way toward the elevators, “Take care you two, and good luck!”

“You look beautiful,” I said, “But I’m sure you already knew that,” I kissed her cheek and she blinked, not saying a word. The elevator doors closed, and she raised an eyebrow.

“In character for Chelsie?”

“You never know who wants to make a buck leaking stuff to the press,” I offered her my arm.

“I’ll hang off your arm when we get to the lobby,” she smirked.

“Suit yourself,” I said backing up. She locked up her apartment and we walked to the elevator and waited for it to come back up.

“So, what do you think your dad will want to talk about?”

“It’s hard to say. He’s more a quiet observer but he’ll probably try to get a rise out of you one way or another.”

The elevator approached the ground level and I offered my arm again. She smiled, accepting it just before the doors opened and we made our way out to the limo that was waiting. The doorman was ready for us nodding as we passed him.

“Have a good night Miss,” he said.

I opened the limo door and let her get in before I followed, taking the seat across from her. I couldn’t help but take in the sight of her legs as she adjusted her dress. Realizing what I had done I lifted my gaze to her face.
