Chapter Nineteen

Asher

Part of me wasn’t expecting Donte to ring Obsidian. But I text my brother anyway to let him know what had happened. I knew that my brother wouldn’t have a problem with me sending Donte his way. He was raised the same as me. The only difference was that Obsidian was the wilder out of all of us. But that was why people loved him.

After my talk to Donte, things seemed to calm down. I’d noticed him having a whispered conversation with his mate, Savannah. Olivia and Scarlett continued their glare-offs with Donte, but he ignored them. I got the feeling that most people felt Olivia and Scarlett’s wrath often. It surprised me to find out that they weren’t twins.

Patricia had packed away March’s room so that we wouldn’t have to do much for him. I knew that it was her way of coping with the fact that her baby was moving out. He didn’t have much, apparently, most of it was sketchbooks and drawing materials. I planned to organize a room in our apartment so that he had the place to permanently set up his drawing materials. I meant it when I suggested displaying March’s drawings.

Once we had his belongings in the back of my car there were hugs all around. Patricia had held onto March and sobbed into his neck.

“Mama, I’m going to be back to visit regularly, and you and Papa can come to visit,” March said as he tried to pry his mother off him.

I was surprised when Donte stepped forward and stuck his hand out to me to shake. “Um, I want to thank you for the job offer. I’ll be ringing Obsidian in the morning,” he said as he rubbed at the back of his neck. I knew that this was taking a lot for him to swallow his pride and accept help. “Also, if you were serious about helping us with housing until I can afford to get our own, I’d really like that.”

I smiled at him and nodded my head. “Most definitely. Give me a ring tomorrow and we will discuss the details. And if Savannah would like help getting work, let me know. I’m sure we can find her something.”

Donte’s eyes widened. “Really?”

“Absolutely. I meant what I said when I told you that I help where I can.”

Donte nodded his head. “Yeah, yeah alright. I’ll um talk to her.”

“Just let me know when you are ready,” I said shaking his hand again and giving his shoulder a squeeze.

He nodded again before stepping away and standing beside his mate. He said something quietly to her and Savannah looked up at me with wide eyes and her mouth dropped open. I nodded my head and gave her a small smile.

Savannah smiled back at me and nodded. By the time we had said our goodbyes to everyone, the sun was starting to set, and I knew if we didn’t get on the road soon it would make for a very late night.
