Jade spent the night tossing and turning. After sharing a bed with Damien in Dallas she just couldn’t sleep alone. Her thoughts turned to the man in the empty house, and she thought of visiting him but stopped herself before she made a mistake. But oh God, her body missed his.

Determined to sleep, she rolled over and pushed thoughts of Damien from her mind until she finally fell asleep.

Eleven

The air was cool, but the sun was bright as Jade stood on the back porch painting. At the sound of approaching hoof beats, she looked up. She smiled as she saw Damien on Sultan riding toward her.

She raised her hand in greeting as she walked down the steps to meet him. As Damien reined Sultan in, she patted the horse’s neck as she looked up at her husband. “What’re you doing here?”

He tipped his hat to her as she looked up shading her eyes. “Well, ma’am you did agree to have lunch with me.” Damien drawled.

Jade smiled up and put on her best southern accent. “Well, you’re early sir, I wasn’t expecting you ‘til noon. Why it’s barely eleven o’clock.”

“I reckon you are right ma’am, but it’ll take us until noon to get to our luncheon spot.” Damien grinned. “I suggest you grab your hat and climb on board.”

“We don’t need to ride double. I can saddle one of Kate’s horses.” She turned away from him heading up the steps. “I have to take care of my paints real quick.”

Damien dismounted and tethered Sultan, then walked up behind her. He looked at the painting she was half finished with. His brows furrowed as he studied it. The picture was of a cowboy riding across a great open plain. The horse was Sultan, and the rider was himself.

“Do you like it?” Jaden looked from the painting to him.

“It’s great,” he couldn’t help but see himself as she saw him, the lone cowboy. “He looks lonely.”

Jaden looked at the picture and smiled. “No, he’s where he loves best, on the open range. It’s peaceful and beautiful.”

He studied the painting for a long moment. “Yeah, I guess I can see that.” Damien glanced back at her. “Are you selling it?”

“Why?” She raised a brow.

“I want it.” He frowned at her hard look. “Fine, I’ll have Drake buy it and sell it to me.”

“It’s a Christmas present for your mama.” She shook her head. “Sorry, no sale.”

Jaden picked up her brushes and pallet heading into the house. Damien snagged the easel following her. He set it down and watched her clean her brushes. Her hair was braided back and hung down past her shoulders. That long lean body and those incredible legs made him ache to touch her.

He crossed the room to stand behind her with his body trapping her between him and the sink. Damien stroked her braid as he nibbled on her neck. His free hand roamed over her stomach and breasts.

Jade with her hands covered in turpentine tipped her head to allow him better access.
