The studio was slated to be finished by the time Harry got home. Harry deliberately had not gone into the space recently because he wanted an element of surprise, like on home improvement shows.

Unfortunately recording wasn’t going well. He’d texted Diego to tell him about the delay. Diego said he’d wait, but Harry let him know he didn’t know when he’d finish. Dingo’s simple response had been, Don’t worry about it.

It was seven when Harry finally hopped on BART to head home. He texted Diego that he was on his way, but he hadn’t heard back by the time he reached his stop. It was okay. Diego probably had things to do and Harry could certainly appreciate the final product on his own.

Harry grabbed his mail as he entered the building, got in the elevator and used his key to unlock his floor. The elevator opened and Jayson met him in the small entry.

“Hey, man, didn’t expect you to still be here.” Harry was elated. If Jayson was here, that meant Diego was, too.

Jayson smiled and shrugged. “Gotta make sure there’s a grand unveiling for the finished product. Let me have your bag.”

Harry handed it over and Jayson put it on the kitchen counter.

“Now let’s get you blindfolded.” He pulled a black cloth from his back pocket.

“Seriously?” Harry asked as Jayson stepped behind him.

“Yup. We take this part very seriously.”

Harry chuckled as Jayson tied the cloth, blocking out his vision.

“I’ll guide you.”

Harry offered his arm and Jayson took it at the elbow, keeping him on the right path. They went a couple dozen steps before they stopped. “Okay, turn right and step forward. You’re just inside the doorway. You can take off the blindfold when you’re ready.”

Harry had major butterflies. He was excited to see the studio and start using it. But he was also excited to see Diego. They could finally plan their date and actually find out what they’d be like as a couple.

He took a deep breath and pulled the blindfold down. The first thing he saw was Diego standing beside the beautiful wood and steel desk, the iMac screen showing his new sound editing software.

Manny and Sara were sitting on the couch in the middle of the room, facing the desk. Jayson slipped past Harry to join Diego.

“Welcome to your new office and studio,” Diego said as he gestured to the rest of the room with a flourish. He turned and poured Harry a glass of champagne as Sara and Manny stood with their drinks already in hand. Jayson grabbed an empty glass from the desk as Diego handed Harry his champagne.

“Cheers,” Diego said and everyone brought their glasses together before taking a drink. Harry noticed that even Jayson pretended to drink.

“Cheers,” Harry said, his eyes darting everywhere, taking in the finished room as well as Diego. “It’s amazing. What a difference just two days make.”

“Walk around. Check it all out. You’ve got three business days to inspect it closely before you give final sign off, but, for now, just enjoy taking it in.
