THE FAMOUS FIVE

Sky Blue babes write names in history book

Coventry City 5 (Bodak 7, Hateley 30,84, Thompson

35, Hunt 80) Watford 0 Attendance: 30,389

The toast is ‘Gordon Milne’s marvels’ who, in 90 glorious and historic minutes, have turned Highfield Road into a Sky Blue heaven. Goals and champagne flowed as the cock-a-hoop and cavalier City kids stormed their way through to the League Cup semi-final on one of the greatest nights in the club’s history.

Giant-killers Watford were left crushed by the Sky Blues ferocious commitment in this quarter-final replay – and bemused by their brilliance. The old City stars of the past would have been proud of this youthful, ambitious and exuberant side of the 1980s. To reach a cup semi-final for the first time in the club’s history was pretty special, but to do it with ‘the old five’ really added the sparkle and glitter to an unforgettable and magical night.
