The Sydney Harbour Bridge sits across Sydney Harbour and carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge (often including the nearby Sydney Opera House) is an iconic image of Australia. Locals often call the bridge “The Coat Hanger” because of its arch-based design.

The arch is composed of two 28-panel arch trusses, whose heights vary from 18 metres at the centre to 57 metres the ends next to the pylons. The arch itself has a span of over 500 metres, and its summit is 134 metres above the sea.
