“You can’t do that,” I whispered as the enormity of the situation started to sink in. Yeah, they really could since they were the legal guardians that had signed Edric over to us, even though he was now of age. “We never even wished him happy birthday.”

“Fuck you and your self-pity!” Jared roared through the phone.

“He’s not coming to Chicago. He texted Carson that he needed time alone and was taking a vacation out west. Do you think that’s where he’s really going? We have no idea where he’s heading, and you know the laws for a runaway Omega.”

“No!” Colin gasped, his eyes going wide as my heart sank. “The High Council could kill him.”

“What do you care?” Carson sneered, and we deserved no less.

“You stay out of this and keep a lid on it. We’ll find him and protect him. I should never have trusted you assholes.” And with that, he hung up.

“What have we done?” Rowan asked aloud before taking his own drink. “We never even asked him. I was so hurt and betrayed that I just reacted. He’ll never forgive us.”

“We still can’t let him run and risk getting in trouble with the High Council,” Colin said firmly. I had another thought that broke my heart even more.

“He’s no longer a virgin,” I whispered and they both stared at me with confused looks on their faces. “Taking his virginity will set off his powers as an Omega. Every werewolf around him will be drawn to him and that power. We just lit off a ticking bomb inside of him and pushed him out the door.”

“Jesus,” Rowan hissed and wiped his hands over his face. “This is so bad. I never thought he’d run. I guess I didn’t think at all. I thought we’d fight and maybe there would be some explanation and we’d fix this otherwise I wouldn’t have gone through with the ceremony.”

“Me, too,” I whispered as silent tears fell. “But I was so angry I said those horrid things to him. We’ve got to get him back and before the High Council finds him.”
