Epilogue

THE CHUGGING SOUND of a helicopter broke the delicious silence of the isolated lodge in the Rockies where Faith and Cabot were honeymooning. She was the first out of bed, and she ran outside in her bathrobe and slippers just in time to catch the packet the chopper dropped.

She slogged back inside, kicked off the snow-burdened slippers and said to Cabot, “You had Variety delivered? On our honeymoon?”

“I’m trying to change,” Cabot said unrepentantly. “The metamorphosis isn’t complete yet.” He opened the paper, scanned it, then zeroed in on a story and read it aloud to Faith.

“Actress Tippy Temple and her gorgeous new husband Borg Bergenstern are honeymooning in the Inn of Dreams in Reno. ‘When I met Borg,’ Temple told our reporters, ‘I knew I’d found the only man I could ever love. Those rumors about my publicist and me—who knows how things like that get started. Cabot Drennan is a gifted professional who has done so much for me, and I’m so thrilled that he’s in love, too, with an absolute sweetheart of a travel agent, Faith Sumner, presently with Wycoff Worldwide, but soon to start her own agency….’”

“I am?” Faith said, stunned.

“Heavenly Honeymoons, you could call it,” Cabot said, folding his arms around her.

“Heavenly? Hellish with me at the helm! Cabot, this is not a wise idea. You know I’ll only—”

“—make everybody who comes to you happy,” Cabot murmured into her hair.

“No kidding,” said Faith, whose heart was no longer in conversation. “You think I can do that?”

“I’m here,” he answered her, “in the middle of nowhere with a chancy electrical system, no phone and absolutely no contact with the outside world. I’m happy. Doesn’t that tell you something?”

It told her everything she would ever need to know.
