Chapter Nine

Shoanna awoke early the next morning. She raised herself on one elbow and looked at the man sleeping next to her. She wondered what went on in that clever mind of his. Did she know him at all? He loved extremes in sex and that was fine by her. But what else was she getting into? She had never tolerated whips and beatings and didn’t intend to start now. She wished she could speak to someone about it but Tara wouldn’t want to listen and everyone else she knew around here was much too loyal to Andreas to allow any talk about anything. ‘Penny for them?’ Andreas murmured, opening his eyes just a slit. ‘Is it really morning? I don’t seem to have slept for more than five minutes.’

‘It’s still early.’

‘So, why the dreamy look? What were you thinking?’

‘Just how very little I really know about you.’

‘What do you want to know?’

‘How you spend your life. What do you do all day?’

‘I work. I have an office like any other businessman. I employ a lot of people and pay them well to look after my interests. Leaves me time to follow other ideas. To enjoy life.’

‘How many people live in this house?’

‘Will, and Anderson comes round at times. A couple of housekeepers, cleaners, and so on. They have a house in the grounds. A gardener. The two others you met live in town.’

‘Quite a team. You realise I haven’t even looked round the house, let alone seen the garden.’

‘I’ll give you a conducted tour later. Then I shall want to know if you’re going to move in here. You can have rooms to yourself, so if you want to be on your own you can. It also means I can have private time if I need it.’

She considered his words. Did he mean that he might want to entertain another woman at times? How would she feel about that? If she asked him, he would probably be furious and tell her that was his business and his alone. It went to prove she didn’t really know him at all.

‘I’ll decide when I’ve had a look round. See exactly what you’re offering me.
