Surprisingly, Kimberly Chem agreed to every item I insisted be included in our media coverage agreement. Even her demanding tone had softened as we gathered with her crew outside Cay’s brownstone before teleporting as a group to the Middle East.

“The public already knows you’re a divine badass, Dark Mercy, but what is the rest of the image you want to portray?” Kimberly efficiently flicked a short strand of jet black hair out of her almond-shaped, hazel eyes and observed me shrewdly

Feeling Gage’s supportive hand on my back, I answered carefully, “That my loyalty does not lie with either Heaven or Hell, so therefore I can be trusted. I truly have the human race's best interest in mind.”

And, I swear to Lucifer, news-lady, you’d better have my best interests in mind, or I will set my harem on you!

“Ready to go, Hell-cat?” Oz had appeared at my side, his sky-blue eyes focused on me alone. “Now, this jump is going to be farther than you’ve ever teleported on Earth before so you may feel a little sick afterward. I’ll be right there to catch you in my big strong arms, though.” Completely uncaring that Kimberly stood two feet away, he lifted my chin for a decidedly inappropriate kiss.

“Jeez, I hope some of your goddess voodoo rubs off on me during this trip, Dark Mercy. I could use a harem myself!” Kimberly chuckled then held up her hands in mock surrender as my eyes narrowed. “I know, I know...your relationships are off-limits for my story. It doesn’t mean I won’t be taking some notes of my own!” She laughed casually, unbothered by the potential wrath of a divine being.

Stifling a smile, I turned back to Oz to confirm, “I’m ready. Is everyone else grouped with an angel?” Registering his nod, I addressed the group, “Ok, everyone, let’s fucking do this!”

My motivational speeches may need some work, but fuck it. Right now, I have an ancient origin to uncover!

Oz wasn’t kidding about the motion sickness. As soon as we landed, I felt my stomach heaving like I’d been dangled upside down in a strong storm after a heavy meal. Blessedly, I kept my lunch down, although some of Kimberly’s crew were bent over some nearby shrubs looking decidedly green.

“And, that is why we did not land inside the grounds of my home,” Grazi scoffed, spinning on her heel and marching toward a nearby stone archway, indignantly muttering “humans…” under her breath while Madd and Rocco sprinted after her like loyal dogs.

I love that Grazi has bewitched those two. All these big strong men falling over themselves is adorable.

Before following our hostess, I dutifully made the rounds among the queasy humans, lightly touching each to dispense doses of healing energy. Brian patiently waited for me to finish, then offered his arm before we headed toward the entrance together.
