CHAPTER 10
Vivi woke up to grunting and groaning on the other side of the door. She went to the door, hearing a soft moan that sent a flush to her face. Was he reliving last night? She wrapped her fingers around the doorknob, chewing her bottom lip. âShould I leave you alone for a while longer?â
âOnly if you donât want to see me stretching out my kinks. I mean, knots. Kinks, not the right word to use just now.â
She couldnât resist opening the door on that. And yep, there he was, bare-chested, in those sweatpants, stretching his hand up to the ceiling. Wow. She let herself take him in for a second, the deep chest cage, muscles flexing in his arms and stomach. Then she winced. âCouch that bad?â
âI wonât lie. Yeah. Itâs too short, so my feet are numb from being propped up on the arm. Or I have to curl up in fetal position.â
âWeâll switch tonight. Iâm shorter. The couch will be fine for me.â
âItâs also hard as hell.â
She lifted a shoulder. âI can handle hard as hell.â She shook her head. âThis assignment is definitely corrupting my language.â Theyâd discussed requesting a cot but nixed it just in case someone who worked at the hotel was connected to Bonds. Too much could go wrong in an undercover op, as theyâd discovered many a time. Of course, she could suggest they share the big bed. But by the way her body thrummed at the idea of him nearby, of rolling into that chest and feeling his arms wrap around her ⦠nope. Hell, nope.
He did a move that looked a lot like Sun Salutation. âDo you do yoga?â she asked.
âA little. Donât tell the guys though. Theyâd poke me. I started doing it a couple years ago when I ran across an instructional program while channel surfing.â
âAnd she was hot, wearing tight leggings â¦â Then she realized he wasnât that kind of guy, really.
âNo,â he said pointedly. âShe was pretty, yes, but wearing not-so-tight yoga pants. And a baggy shirt over her athletic top. But it was the stretch she was doing that caught my eye. It looked like it would be great for my tweaking back. And it helped. So I did more â¦â
She stepped up beside him and started doing Sun Salutation with him. âLetâs do a five-minute workout. I could use it, too. Keep doing what youâre doing; Iâll follow.â
âYeah. Cool.â
They went through the Warrior poses, Downward Dog, Up Dog, the dreaded Plank, and several others before finishing with savasana, lying next to each other on the floor. Thankfully, he hadnât done happy baby, where one grabbed their toes and opened their legs wide. Awkward with a guy she didnât know all that well.
But she realized, she did know him pretty well. Except for the reason for the dark shadow. And most annoyingly, she wanted to know about that.
She looked over at him, and he met her gaze. âI see why you were groaning. This felt great.
