Chapter Thirteen

The kiss was something that Michael felt was instinctual and intuitive. People attracted to each other shared their intimacy through a kiss. The start of any meaningful relationship he’d had started with a kiss.

That moment, when Steven leaned over and planted a kiss on Michael, he knew when his heart burst and flooded his limbs with fire; he risked dying because Steven was one man he wanted to kiss from the first time he laid eyes on him. Now that it happened, he feared he’d die once Steven went away to join the rodeo again.

He could have stopped it right there. Michael had the strength and fortitude to halt their interaction. Something inside Michael told him Steven wanted their relationship to continue. That Steven was ready. When Steven shrugged out of the sling and tentatively lifted his t-shirt overhead, exposing his smooth hairless chest to Michael, he wasn’t looking away shyly. His eyes never left Michael.

There was no guilt lingering when Steven broke their first kiss to remove the shirt and leaned toward Michael to kiss him again. It was intuitive and instinctual.

Michael opened his mouth, tasted Steven’s tongue darting against his own. Steven’s mouth was alive, lush and extensive. The texture of his skin under Michael’s roaming fingertips was manly and just what he loved. Steven’s body arched when Michael’s fingers found his available nipple. He pinched it lightly and broke kissing Steven’s mouth, to trail over the stubble on his chin and throat. His mouth replaced his fingertips at Steven’s nipple.

He felt Steven’s hands on his shoulders, fingers pulling at the material of his Henley. Steven’s hand slipped through the V-neck collar to run along Michael’s broad chest. Michael pulled back to scoop off his shirt. On the intimate space of the couch, Steven, wedged under Michael, looked up at him with a hunger that burned in his eyes. Michael dropped the shirt to the floor and pressed against Steven, mouth open. He felt the man’s tongue inside his mouth. A moan escaped Steven’s throat.

Hands groped at the button on Michael’s pants. He pulled in his stomach to create a gap between the jeans and skin, allowing Steven’s fingers to unfasten the button. The rest of the buttons came open easier than the first.

He watched Steven’s face as he felt the man’s hands inside his pants. There was a look between pleasure and shock when Steven’s hand traced the outline of Michael’s cock through the cotton material of his underwear. Michael’s cock was breaching the confines of the boxer-briefs and wasn’t fully erect yet.

“Oh God,” Steven breathed. His hand pulled at the denim.

Michael pulled away from Steven. “You’re going to hurt yourself again if we stay here. Come with me.”

Helping Steven from the wedge of cushion on the sofa, Michael led Steven from the living room by his left hand to the immaculate bedroom. Once inside, while it was redundant since Michael lived alone, he closed the bedroom door.

In the wash of the small bedside light, just bright enough for them to undress and see the bedroom, Michael removed his pants.
