Chapter Nine

Ryan lounged on the couch, flipping TV channels while he waited for Stacy. He’d jumped in the shower as soon as she’d left, and cleaned up for their date. It was technically their first date, so he wanted to make sure she knew he was taking it seriously. He’d dressed in khakis, a button-down shirt, and—it might be a little over the top—the tie he’d used with her earlier. He thought the constant reminder of the day’s earlier events would be a nice touch.

Ryan had been on more than his fair share of dates, but for some reason he really felt the need to impress Stacy. Which was stupid. She, of all people, was someone he could totally be himself with.

Ryan heard the lock on Stacy’s apartment door turn, and he smiled.

“Hey. Sorry that took so long. Are you ready to go?” she asked.

Ryan stood and turned to face her, and Stacy’s eyes widened. Ryan cracked a grin and, without thought, ran his hand down his tie. Only when he noticed the heated look in Stacy’s eyes did he realize that she’d interpreted the move as sexual. He liked that. A lot.

“You sure you don’t want to stay here?” He grinned and skimmed his hand down his tie again.

He could tell Stacy was considering it. She quickly shook herself out of whatever daydream she was having.

“No. I want to show you around Baltimore.” She smiled.

Ryan could tell there was more to that sentence—like “before you leave”—but he didn’t bring it up. He didn’t want to think about that either. The plan had been for him to leave this morning. Then it had seemed to get pushed back to this afternoon. Now there was no discussion about him leaving at all, but they both knew he had to at some point soon.

“Okay. Let’s go do this.” Ryan clapped his hands together and smiled.

“Let me just go change real quick,” Stacy said as she headed toward her bedroom.

“No. Don’t change. I’m dressed up. Sort of. It’s not a suit, but it’s a little over the top for the aquarium.”

“I’m just going to change into a dress.” Stacy paused. “Like the one last night.”

“Oh. Hell yeah. Do that. But keep the heels.”

“Okay. But if my feet are killing me from these heels when we get home, you have to give me a foot rub.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Ryan grinned, and Stacy responded with a sultry smile.

She disappeared into her bedroom, and was only gone a few minutes. When she stepped back through the doorway, Ryan’s knees went weak. She was wearing a short, tight, fitted dress. It was white, and she wore beige pumps. He liked to call it the color nude. Her toned legs had looked amazing in the dress last night, but in this dress they were as sexy as hell. He stood there speechless, then she spun around for him. He nearly stopped breathing. The fitted dress hugged her ass, and the fact that she was a runner was even more apparent.
