RAINER

I may or may not break a few laws driving to my house. But a speeding ticket would be a small price to pay. I’ve been dreaming of this moment for so long. I can’t believe it’s finally happening. When I planned this outing, I had no expectation it would end with hours of uninterrupted time to explore each other’s bodies. I would have been perfectly content to stay at the rodeo and steal a kiss or two in my truck at the end of the night. But now that we’re going to my place, I am determined not to waste a second.

Maeve’s flirty teasing as she rubs along the back of my neck, and her giddy laughter as she gets out of my truck and races me to the front door, chase away any nerves I might have felt. She wants this. She wants me. And there is nothing better in the world.

“Is this a race?” I call after her, jogging the short distance to my front door.

“Yes.” She spins and bites at her lip, her gaze traveling over my body hungrily. “Last one naked is a rotten egg.”

“I don’t think there’s any way I lose that game.” I lean forward, sliding my hand around her waist to put the key in the lock while kissing that smile off her lips. I turn the key, then the knob, and walk her backward as the door swings open.

She spins away out of my arms and levels me with a glare. “You think distraction is gonna work on me?”

I shake my head and deposit my cowboy hat on the hook near the door. “No, darlin’. What you don’t understand is win or lose, I’m still a winner, because we’re both naked.”

She grins, taking one step back and tugging her boot off. Then she takes another step back and does the same to the other boot. “I don’t know what you’re waiting for, cowboy.”

Stalking forward with a smile permanently affixed on my lips, I begin unfastening the buttons on my shirt. I love the way her gaze follows my fingers. Her lips parting as if she likes what she sees. I was what you’d call a late bloomer. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties before my body filled out and I could grow a beard. But I’m a hairy guy, and I know not every woman appreciates that. By the lust in Maeve’s stare, I have nothing to be self-conscious about. “I thought this was a race.”

“I was just letting you catch up.” She blinks pointedly before her gaze lifts to mine.

“Sure about that?” I chuckle, very aware my striptease is the cause of her momentary hesitation. I drop my shirt to the floor and reach for my belt buckle.

Her eyes widen and she presses her lips together. “Mmmhmm.”

“Dress off, ma’am.”

She arches her back, bending her arm behind her to pull down the zipper as she takes a few more steps toward my bedroom.

My belt drops to the floor with a clatter. “What happened to winning?” I tease as I work the top button open on my jeans.
