BALLAD OF THE DAWN

THE END OF MY HEELS click against the glass floor of Facility when I step into the building. All of the people who are passing by stop to greet me properly. I return them with a nod, knowing that we should not really waste our precious time just for casualties. The elevator doors parts and I step in. The button light goes down to basement level ten, where most of the activities take place. Once the doors slide open, I spot Malcolm standing at his usual spot immediately.

“Are they ready? How is the condition?” I ask him, walking through the big alley of glasses, him by my side just a few steps behind.

“They are ready to see you, Your Majesty. The mother and baby are both stable. We are feeding her with blood as we speak,” Malcolm answers, aquatic blue noteboard in his hand.

“Fantastic.” I approach the practice room and find an entire family literally lining up inside. Thirteen beings are occupying the room, with one on the bed and one inside the other. Three of them are werewolves, while the rest that are not on bed are all vampires. “Hello, you must be the Grettalanes. My name is Professor Amethyst and I will be guiding the mother today,” I introduce myself with a smile.

“Hello, my name is Christon Grettalane. We are here for my granddaughter. I hope you don’t mind that I brought my family with me,” a male vampire with golden blonde hair offers his hand, a gesture that I rarely get lately. Netherless, I shake his hand anyway.

My smile widens. “Not at all. After all, you know what they say. The more, the merrier. Especially with a baby coming, you should all celebrate this together.”

“Thank you for your understanding. We really appreciate it,” another male with short black hair grins. He is rather tall, proximately eight inches and one foot, and muscle. In his arm, he is holding a female blonde.

I approach the female on bed. She has wavy chocolate hair like her mother’s and a pair of unrelated brown eyes. Her skin is a healthy color and her heart is beating. She must be a half human. There is a small bump on her stomach, but it’s barely visible. Carefully, I place my palm on it and detect another heartbeat inside.

“You are three months and eight days pregnant,” I state. “Seeing that the fetus is part vampire, you will give birth in the next two weeks,” I explain to her.

“How do you know?” Her mother, the chocolate haired vampire, asks immediately. “Do you have a special ability to determine that?”

“My abilities can not determine this calculation,” I correct her, then with an assuring smile I say, “but I am rather used to detect growing embryos by now.”

“So the baby will arrive in around two weeks?” the blonde female asks, excitement in her eyes.

“Precisely in two week times. Seven pass thirty five in exact. Unless of course, an unexpected factor appeared to force the baby to come out faster.
