He found Tyrell sitting on the couch, ready to spring up and run out of the house if need be. Frankly, he was surprised Tyrell was still there and hadn't gone home, but then maybe Tyrell's father had more of a leash on his son than even Forrest suspected and made him stay.
Tyrell tensed when Forrest sat beside him. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"No offense, but you don't look like you could." Forrest opened his mouth to speak, but Tyrell held up a hand, cutting him off. "I think you're tougher than you look, though."
Forrest smiled. "My older brothers taught me how to defend myself, so I do okay."
"I'd love to have siblings."
"It can get crazy, but the level of crazy is normal most of the time. My oldest brother, Ramsey, is the Alpha of the clan and I think that helps the rest of the family because we know he's there to guide us. I’m sure you understand with your father being Alpha." Forrest hoped mentioning the Alpha would get Tyrell to expose his real issues a lot faster and he strongly suspected they all stemmed from his relationship with his father.
"If you mean he dictates your whole life, then yes, I understand."
Forrest shook his head. "An Alpha should be there to offer advice and to protect. Anything else is unnecessary."
Tyrell shook his head. "That's not how it is."
"So change it." Forrest turned to face Tyrell, and when he did, he noticed Tyrell's father standing in the doorway of the kitchen, listening to their conversation. It was the curse of the small house not to have privacy.
Forrest was used to it, although his mother’s house was much larger. With as many people who lived in his family home, the square footage didn’t matter. Forrest would be glad when the war was over so Ramsey would let him go back to his little cabin. After living with mom for protections sake for the last few months, Forrest rediscovered that privacy was a beautiful thing.
Forrest ignored the Alpha, focusing on Tyrell. He might not be Forrest's Alpha, but he still had to be respectful. That didn’t mean he had to blow smoke up the guy’s ass. "Look, I understand what it's like to come from a small town. It can be lonely and isolating, especially for those of us who are gay. Is your family supportive?"
Tyrell laughed. "Angel didn't tell you why he left, did he? My father basically ran him out of town because of his sexuality." Tyrell looked at his father. "Isn’t that right, Dad?"
"Yes. My son is just going through a phase." The Alpha came in the room then.
"A phase? Do you believe that or are you just hopeful?" Forrest asked. Either way, it made the guy an asshole for not just accepting his son. Forrest didn't understand why it made a difference if Tyrell was just experimenting, although Tyrell was probably as old as Angel and Forrest thought Angel might be in his fifties, even though he looked about twenty-five years old.
