Chapter Five

In the club’s dressing room, Danny stripped out of his clothes alongside a newly hired dancer named Stevie.

“Nervous?” Danny asked, remembering what his first night on the job had been like not all that long ago.

“A bit.” Stevie flashed him a sheepish grin. “This is new for me. I’ve been naked before, but never in front of a crowd.” He looked to the floor, his cheeks red. “That sounded so stupid.”

“Not at all. It takes a bit of getting used to, but you will be okay.” Danny’s eyes strayed down over Stevie’s firm chest to his crotch.

“I’m up here,” Stevie said. He laughed. His grayish-blue eyes sparkled even under the shitty lighting of the room.

“Sorry.” Danny turned away. Had he been so obvious? He was a sucker for a cutie. Well, Terrence hadn’t been quite his usual type. That guy didn’t count.

“It’s okay.”

Danny felt Stevie closing in on him. His chest now bracing against Danny’s back.

The door to the room swung open suddenly. It was Craig.

“What do we have here?” Craig grinned. “I’m Craig,” he said, introducing himself. “You’re new, right?”

Stevie nodded, grabbing Craig’s hand. “I’m Stevie. This is my first night.”

“Has anyone ever told you you’re the cutest thing ever?” Craig asked.

Danny laughed straight out as he went about folding his clothes. He placed them in the duffel bag he’d brought with him tonight. “Smooth, Craig, real smooth.”

“Stevie, it was nice meeting you. I have to get out there. So take it easy and relax.” Danny passed by the twosome and made his way through the door to the bar for a drink.

Two hours passed. The club buzzed, compared to most nights. Danny had done his time on stage and now circled the customers, entertaining them to the best of his ability.

Leaning over the bar, he asked for a cola and had just set on relaxing for a moment when a voice from behind called his name.

“Danny?”

He turned. It was Terrence.

“Hi,” he replied as he sipped his cola.

“Hard night?” Terrence asked. It was a lame attempt at making conversation and Danny knew that.

“It’s been busy. I asked to knock off early since I’ve done my bit on stage for tonight.”

“I popped in to see you. I didn’t like how things ended off between us, so I thought I would drop in to see if you were working. Is there some place we can talk in private?”

Danny thought for a moment, but the only place he could come up with was the dressing room. At this time in the night it was usually empty until the bar closed and the guys came back to get dressed. “Sure, follow me.”
