Dear Brooke,

When the lights are bright again... you will be, too. Broadway credit or not, this is your family. This is your home and no one can deny that you have made yourself a part of it. When the lights went dark, so did your world. Years of onlooking, self doubt, and the desire turned sickness of wanting to be “in it” so bad… and…here you are. You made it. A community, a world, a dream that you always strove for. It took having it all taken away for you to clearly see just how “in it” you are. How lucky you are to have felt what was, and to have stuck it out in times of darkness and unknown. When the lights are bright again.. you will be here and ready for whatever will be. Don’t be scared or afraid of not being “ready” to return to what was, because you have evolved. Continue to make your own art without reason, without permission, without question. Deep down you know, you always have. Continue to open your arms wide for all of the magic this city reveals to those brave enough to look for it, to see it. You never know what will happen when you step outside of your door. Look up at the sky and breathe in all that life has to offer. Continue to tell your stories, follow through, say yes to the things and people who set you on fire, and always remember to get back up. You are resilient with your reckless heart and that…that is what you will be remembered for. Trust in your heart that you are where you belong and when the lights are bright again, and they will be, it will be time to let your light shine bright as well.

Believe unconditionally. When you let your heart lead the way, you will radiate, and you never know who you may be a lighthouse for.

As I sit here and write this to you, I think of Damn Yankees National Tour January 1996. “You Gotta Have Heart.”

Five-year-old B sitting in that seat looking up at the stage with wonder, awe and a tiny inkling inside of what could be would be proud. You are a glimmering Quasar.

Celebrate what makes you special and never stop sharing it… because that is magic.
