Chapter 27 – Hangover

Cade

I woke up with a thumping headache and a strange feeling of déjà vu. I hated feeling this way but I could hardly call myself a stranger to it.

I blinked and had to think for a moment what had happened the night before.

The memories were hazy but they were painful too and that pain reminded me. Benjamin didn’t want me. He’d been cheating on me the whole time with Becca…

I felt absolutely awful from the drink but far worse than that, was realising that Benjamin and I hadn’t been real. I’d gone and done it again – been sucked in and slept with him. I couldn’t believe how stupid I was. But it had felt so wonderful at the time…

I didn’t know what to do, so I called Jack. Maybe he’d been the one who had got me back to halls – it was usually him who saved me from my bad self... I wasn’t quite so sure about the details of getting home. I just remembered that I’d been carried and murmurings on the doorstep before someone put me to bed.

“Jack?”

“Cade?” He sounded relieved to hear from me, “Thank God you’re okay.”

I cringed, “Was I that bad?”

“Nah – you were alright, really.” He said, sounding as though he was smiling, “But talk about magnificent. Benjamin was like a knight in shining armour. He totally told Chardonnay and Becca where to get off. There’s no way on this earth that boy isn’t totally in love with you.”

My jaw dropped, “But Becca said…” Had she lied?

There was a silence and then, “What did she say?”

My heart started beating painfully in my chest, “She said they’d been texting each other,” I said, a lump forming in my throat as I recalled their faces, lit up with spiteful glee as they told me. “she made it sound like they were a thing…”

“Well that’s bollocks,” Jack said in his straightforward manner, “But you two really need to talk about stuff. His head’s all over the place.”

I sighed. His head was all over the place? Mine was completely spinning. I really needed to hear that from Benjamin, “Yeah – I’ll call him.”

“Make sure you do.”
