Chapter Nine

Here I was once again home alone relaxing. Philip was at his regular job, and I had the afternoon free. Deciding to keep my nervous calm for the upcoming show, I went to make myself a cup of tea, instead of working on the latest routine Philip and I were practicing—which I normally did in our spare room we had turned into a small dance studio. Finally with the kettle boiled, I poured the hot water into the cup. Though as I did so, I noticed a slight tremble in my left leg—I paused pouring and swallowed while inhaling some inner strength.

With the tea seeped and ready to drink, I picked up the cup in one hand and my treat in the other. I was going to watch a sweet chick flick. Though Dirty Dancing Havana Nights was going to inspire me to want to seduce my boyfriend when he got home, as well as possibly re-enact some moves. With a big grin on my face I carried on forward toward the living room. However when I got to the section of the floor where the floor mat started, my foot didn’t lift up when I went to step forward.

I bumped the edge of the carpet, and stumbled forward. As I did so, my right hand splashed out tea, and my left hand tossed the plate with my cinnamon bun. After quickly catching myself from not falling to the floor, I regained my posture though my pride was hurt.

Looking around, no one was here but myself. My hand was wet and burnt from the tea and my shirt was messy. The carpet had my treat on it. I closed my eyes to prevent the onslaught of tears, and therefore only slipped out a few.

Once I had control of my emotions, I slowly walked my tea to my sitting area. Once it was safely on the table, I turned to go back to collect my treat, however my leg wouldn’t move and I fumbled to my knees. I grounded my teeth and ignored the fact that I fell and stumbled, I crawled to my mess and cleaned it up. Then standing back up, I carefully made my way to the kitchen to finish cleaning the mess and myself.

As I walked to the bedroom my pride was hurt, I felt weakened, and almost human—whereas before I sometimes felt on top of the world, healthy. But none of that compared to the anger raging inside me with regards to my stupid body. Better yet my bloody leg!

Philip came into the house and felt worn after having spent the last five hours running ambulance. There had been some crazy pickups and he was just glad to see the day done. Sometimes it was a joy to be at work, but other times he just had bad days. He was looking forward to seeing what his girlfriend was up to. However coming into the house was one thing, but hearing the dark and deep notes of the piano, he was chilled to the core.
