“A little after six this morning, a body was found in the dumpster, behind these apartments at 529 Bakers Rd. The victim, now identified as thirty-three-year-old Eva Gonzales-Cruz, was found with her throat slit and multiple stab wounds to the chest. There are currently no suspects, and we have no further details at this time.”

Nita stared at the TV screen as the photo of the blonde Mexican woman sat in the upper right corner. It wasn’t the woman’s death that made her uneasy, but the fact that it had happened so soon. This also meant that Nita’s suspicions were right. There had to be someone else. This person must have known that Nita was there last night, and felt the woman was a liability, and had to be killed.

“So sad, such a beautiful young lady.” Her mother shook her head and got up. “You hungry? I was going to wait until one of you got up before I made breakfast.” She asked Nita.

Nita sat there, still staring at the TV, which was now on commercial.

“Hello! Earth to Amanita!” Her mother called out to her, waiting for an answer.

“Yeah, yeah, sure.” Nita was too distracted with a million thoughts going through her head.

“Alright. I’ll go and wake your father up, then after breakfast we can head to the hospital to see Ben.” Her mother walked into the kitchen to get started.

Nita, still on the couch, didn’t even know how she would tell any of this to Benjamin, or if she even should. He had a right to know, but she didn’t feel with his current situation, that it was a good time to bring any of this up. She also felt that he would blame her for his attack if she told him about her going to the police station, and she knew for a fact that he would be furious once she told him that she went to see Chin again, alone, and was almost killed for it. She instantly felt her headache starting to come back, rubbing her temples and hurrying upstairs to the bathroom to grab two more painkillers out of the bathroom cabinet. She swallowed them, then turned on the faucet and splashed cold water over her face.
