They got the flags and went to dinner.

“I need to go visit this company,” Samantha said. “They’ll have copies of the plans there that I want to destroy, and I want to know who did the design.”

“You can log it if you want,” Sam said to Carson. “We’ll…” he paused, then looked down at his plate. He had managed to forget about Jason for almost six hours. “We’ll be in the wind again after this.”

“I want to help,” Carson said.

“No,” Samantha answered.

“Why not?”

“I’m not dragging more of you into this.”

“You said you’d teach me.”

“I said I’d teach you when there was time. There isn’t time, now.”

Sam nodded.

“You should keep moving. It was really good to see you.”

“Keep your phone on,” Carson said. Sam shrugged and nodded.

“Yeah. Can you drop us back at the hotel?”

“Call if you need anything,” Carson said.

Samantha was dropping away again. She had been able to forget, too, and now she was off worrying over the same stuff they had been working on before. The victory was forgotten.

“I’ll call when we have Jason,” Sam said.
