TRANSITIONING BETWEEN SEGMENTS

While some interviews are well orchestrated with a natural story arc and engaging delivery style that requires little or no editing, others need more finessing. That’s when you need to break the interview or show into short segments. Write and record transition lines to make it sound natural and spontaneous. It might be a sentence like: “Your experience with that honey badger is fearless. They’re native to Africa, India, and Southwest Asia. Where were you when you saw the honey badgers attack the lion pack?”

Aim to keep the production value high and flow seamlessly between segments. Lead into the interview or story as if it were live and occurring at that moment rather than later during post-production. The beauty of a podcast is that everyone listens to it on their own schedule, so don’t draw focus to the fact that it was recorded earlier and you added these comments days or weeks later.

Most likely, the interview audio sound will be different from the intro and outro, especially if you farm that show branding service out to a professional production company. Every location has a different audio quality that you need to take into account. Here are a few ways you can deal with those sound quality inconsistencies.
