Chapter Seven

Eva

“Um, hi,” I mutter as I look over Noah, from his damp hair and over his bare torso and down his sweats to his bare feet.

“Hey,” he murmurs as he bites back a grin. “You look cute.”

I look down at myself in my sleep shorts and two sizes too big t-shirt that has Sebastian’s football number on the back. My hair is damp from my own shower, and my face is make up free.

“So, do you,” I tell him and bite my lip. “Do you mind if I hang out in here? If you’re going to bed, no biggie. I can hang out in the lobby or something. My roomie is already in bed, and she’s throwing a fit about my book light. I even tried to hide under the bedcovers, but she didn’t want any of it.”

“You can come in,” he chuckles out and moves aside.

Brushing past him, I head past his bed and to the living space where I take a seat on the couch. Noah sits next to me as I pick up where I left off in the book that I’ve read so many times already. I get through maybe a page before I begin to realize how close he is to me. He smells clean and manly, and his arm pressed against mine radiates heat. I read the same paragraph three times before I finally toss the book on to the coffee table and look up at him.

“I, uh,” I mumble and clear my throat, “think I need some air.”

“You okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,”

I get up and go to the glass door that leads to the balcony. I lean over the railing and look out over the city that’s still very much awake even at this hour, and I tense slightly when I feel Noah come up behind me. He cages me in with an arm on either side of me with his hands gripping the metal railing next to mine, and I feel his chest press to my back as his lips brush over the shell of my ear.

“Relax,” he whispers. “I can’t make you that uncomfortable.”

I shake my head and breathe out, “I’m not uncomfortable. I just… I shouldn’t have come to your room.”

“Why not?”

Because I’m more than just attracted to him. I like him. I think I like him a lot. He makes me laugh, and I feel a connection every time we talk. However, I don’t want him to think I’m using him to get ahead. I’d go back to cleaning hotel rooms before I let him think that. I trust him, and trusting people is something I’ve always struggled with. But with Noah? It’s easy. His life is so complicated, and mine is hard, but when we’re together, it’s so, so easy.
