The relaxed, boneless feeling continues all the way back to campus. Nico drives while I fill him in as much as I can. It’s not much, but he accepts what I can offer without complaint. Maybe one day I’ll be able to tell him more, but it won’t be any time soon.

He walks me back to my dorm, but when we exit the elevator onto my floor, the good-time vibes we’ve been sporting come crashing in around us.

“Welcome back, lovebirds,” Luc greets in an icy voice, eyeing our entwined hands. He’s sitting on the floor outside my door with his legs outstretched in front of him. “I figured you’d show up sooner or later.”

“Gaston,” I mutter back and unlock the door.

“Don’t start shit. It’s been a good night,” Nico gripes at his friend. He seems mildly annoyed rather than angry, so I take my cue from him.

“Have a good night?” I ask Luc as he climbs to his feet.

“No.” He glares at me before turning his attention on Nico, his look one of concern. “We need to talk.”

I snort. “Got it. I’ll leave you two to it.”

Nico kisses me on the cheek before he releases my hand, clearly not giving two shits about his imposing friend. “Dream of me.” He hands me the carrots, and it takes everything in me not to laugh at Luc’s expression of utter confusion. “Night, baby girl.”

My cheeks heat at the reminder. How he called me that while I was riding his hand. I turn away so Luc can’t see, but he can’t help but get the last word in.

“I told you there wouldn’t be any more warnings. The game changes tomorrow.”
