THE FIRE STILL BURNS

Deanna woke up with a smile on her lips, she thought she had been dreaming but she realized that it had all happened. She was lying naked on the bank with a blanket over her. Matthew was not beside her. She felt sore but happy. She rolled over on her side and saw him. He had set up his tent and he was cooking something over a camp fire. She sat up and he looked up.

"Well, hello there..."

"Hey..." She said dreamily.

"Happy you are up. I thought I was going to have to wake you up to have dinner."

She got up and put on her clothes. It was getting cold. She wrapped the blanket around her and went to join him at the fire.

"I hope you will enjoy what I am preparing. You need to fuel up before you ride back home unless you have no intention of leaving tonight."

She miles at him coyly, "don't worry, I really could eat the skunk now and about the other thing, we will see. We did go pretty hard."

He reached over and hugged her. It was so nice to have her as company even if it was for a little bit. What they had shared before was so intense, so special. He felt a connection to her.

"If you decide to stay, we can both snuggle up in the tent. I learned the hard way that the bugs don't play out here at night."

She had to laugh. He had such a way with words. He had a bottle of wine with him and he popped the cork and shared it with her. He was preparing some potatoes with some chicken chunks, no doubt from a tin but she didn't care. It all smelled good and she was starving.

Dinner was ready soon and they sat down really close to each other and shared the meal. He didn't have any plate so they ate right from the little pot he had. It was the most intimate dinner she had ever had.

"Boy, this restaurant sure is low on utensils but the food is to die for," she said snickering.

"Well, I like it too and the company is delightful. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

They kept on eating and they chatted and got to know each other better. Some of the stuff she told him she had never shared with her closest friend. He was a young man whom she had just met a couple hours earlier. What they did on that grassy bank made them closer than a lot of her friends were to her.

After dinner, they cleaned up. He grabbed the wine and they sat out for a bit just watching the night sky. It was so beautiful. She leaned back against him and took a deep breath. It was so serene. She was really happy. They finished the wine pretty quickly. She turned to face him. He looked gorgeous in the moonlight.

"Matthew, I had a wonderful day. It was much better than any day I have had for years.
