Chapter Ten

It took Daphne less than ten minutes to make her way to the main house. She crept in the unlocked back door and down to the basement to Forrest’s room. He was sprawled across his queen-size bed like a toddler, arms and legs akimbo, sound asleep. Another person was sprawled on the ground next to him.

Daphne squinted at the other man, and realized it was the guy from the night before. The one who reminded her of someone else.

As quietly as she could, she dug her suitcase out of the closet, and took it back to the game room. Combing through it quickly, she found clothes to wear and slipped them on.

Her stomach grumbled, having missed the delicious-smelling breakfast at the Mendoza house. She shoved her suitcase against the wall and out of the way before making her way back upstairs and to the kitchen.

Ryder was perched on the counter eating fruit from a pre-made platter. Her head swiveled in Daphne’s direction; eyes round like she’d been caught doing something she shouldn’t. After a second, Ryder let out a huge breath and popped another grape into her mouth. “Hey, Daphne. I didn’t expect to see you so early this morning.” She wiggled her eyebrows lasciviously, making Daphne roll her eyes.

“No reason for me to be at Diego’s place. I freaked him out again, so I left.” She leaned against the counter and took a piece of cantaloupe.

“I can’t believe he hasn’t manned up yet. I know he’s been looking for his Mate for quite a while now.”

The air around them stilled for a second. Daphne looked at Ryder. Her eyes had bugged out, and her mouth dropped into a perfect O. “You do know you’re Mates, right?”

Daphne chuckled. “Yes.”

Ryder nodded and Daphne could see her thinking. “And you feel the pull too?”

“Yep,” she said, grabbing another piece of fruit. Her growling tummy quieted down after a few more bites.

“Then why are you here again?”

Daphne snorted. “For your wedding. I’m beginning to wonder if that was a mistake.”

“Don’t be silly. And I know you’re here for the wedding. What I meant was, why are you in my kitchen and not having hot wolfie sex with your man?”

“Like I said, I freaked him out again. I’m pretty sure he isn’t up to the task of having a witchy wolf for a Mate. Or, should that be wolfie witch? I never could decide on how to describe exactly what I am.”

A deep chuckle came from behind them. She turned her head to see Gideon walk up. He was shirtless and the top button on his jeans was undone.

“For the love of God, cover yourself. Please,” she said, slapping her hand over her eyes.

“It isn’t like you won’t see us all naked later,” Gideon said.

Daphne dropped her hand and glared at Gideon. “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I need to see it now. You’re my cousin for fuck’s sake.”

Ryder giggled and stood up on the counter. “I’ll help cover him up.” She lunged for him, and Gideon caught her in mid air.
