Gabby is definitely hesitant as she pulls her car through the metal gates of my father's estate, but still she follows directions nicely as she parks in front, beside the curb.

She cuts the ignition and turns to face me nervously, her brown hair falling over her shoulders. “So, we skipped my friend’s party to hang out at your house?”

I grab the handle, pushing the door open and climbing out. “Nope.” My hands lay against the cool metal of the car’s roof as I dip down to look at Gabby while she remains in the driver's seat. “We’re here to check the last thing off your list. If you’re ready for it.”

I see the flash of excitement in her eyes as she quickly unbuckles her seatbelt, grabbing her keys from the ignition and joining me as I close the car door and head up to one of the five doors of the garage attached to my father's house.

She stands beside me while I enter the code in the keypad and the door lifts, revealing three pristine motorcycles. Her jaw drops as her eyes shift from the bikes to me. “You didn't tell me you owned motorcycles.”

“Huh.” I play it cool and walk inside the garage, standing next to my favorite of the three, a fully restored 1972 Kawasaki Z1. The fucker almost killed me once going around a slick curve out on an old dirt road, but we both made it through. It was Michael and Gabby's older brother, Dylan’s, shop that repaired the old bike. That was of course before everything with Michael and I went south. “Must have slipped my mind.”

Her small hand glides over the black leather seat, a glimmer of unadulterated excitement showing in her gorgeous face. “Right.”

“So, you gonna hop on or what?”

Her eyes jump to mine, surprise swimming in them. “You’re gonna let me drive it?”

“It’s on your list, right?”

Her head nods, as her hand gingerly caresses the dark purple gas tank, and then slowly grazes over the handle. “Yes, but it’s the one I didn't think was going to happen. I was going to beg Michael.”

The fact that I beat him to the punch and it’ll be me that gets to help her finish her list sends a sickening thrill through my body. “You don't have to beg me.” I grab a helmet from the shelf along the wall of the garage, then make my way to stand a mere foot from Gabby. “Not for this, anyway.”

I place the helmet on her head and try not to think about how adorable and utterly fucking hot she looks right now.

She half smiles in acknowledgement. “Are you sure you are okay with this? I’m sure this bike is expensive.”

“I’m sure. Climb on.” She stands, staring at the bike, and I inch closer to her, my hands resting on her hips. “Unless you’re afraid.”

Challenging her stubborn side works, and she grabs the handle bars, throwing her right leg over and climbing on the bike.

I take her soft hand in mine and feel a slight tremor as I place it on the controls.
