Despite the heavy rain, Tanner’s clothing still bore evidence of violence and was stained with blood from his killing of Rafiq and Hamza. If he were picked up by the police, he’d have a difficult time convincing them he wasn’t involved in their deaths.

While he could elude the police, they were aware that he’d had a confrontation with other members of the gang earlier in the day. His passport was an excellent forgery that could withstand normal inspection, it would be revealed a fake under the scrutiny of an investigation.

After leaving the damaged car he sprinted toward the avenue where he had first entered the alley. The street was devoid of pedestrians but a van drove by with its radio blaring chaabi music, the song had a rock-like beat and included a lot of well-played violin.

Off in the distance to Tanner’s left, were the flashing lights of approaching police cars, while the siren of another vehicle was much closer and closing in. Once the van with the loud music passed, Tanner rushed across the street. His destination was the abandoned store where he had hidden a set of crude weapons. He had just enough time to reach the store before yet another police car drove past him.
