* * * *

Holding Riley close to me was the best feeling in the world. I had missed him dearly while on deployment, but not until I embraced him did it fully hit me. Tears streamed from my eyes, and I knew I’d have to choke back more if I wanted to stop crying.

“I don’t think I can fully express how much I missed you,” I said. “I just can’t tell you enough.”

“It would sound new each time you told me, Jaxon,” Riley replied.

I broke from the embrace to stare at his tear-streaked face. Running my hand across his scruffy cheek, I tried to wipe a tear away, but another replaced it. Damn, he’s beautiful. I choked back a sob as I held his head in my hands.

Leaning forward, I kissed him hard. I didn’t want to be gentle with it, as I’d missed him fiercely and I needed him more than anything. His mouth opened willingly, allowing me entrance. My tongue sought his, and I devoured him with all the love and emotion I had within me, my arms holding him still.

I broke from the kiss just enough to speak. “Riley, I miss loving you so much. It hurt so much to be away from you. I don’t ever want to leave you again.”

“I love you too. It’s been a long, lonely time without you, Jaxon.”

I loved the way he said my name, and I kissed him again, more gently this time. His body melted against mine. Enfolding him in my arms, I held on to Riley, even after our kiss stopped. I didn’t want to let go, afraid I’d get pulled away from him again.

“When did you get back to the States?” Riley asked.

“Just this morning. I rented a truck in Cheyenne. It took me awhile to get here. The roads were a little rough.”

Riley rested his forehead against mine. “A little dangerous, but I’m glad you’re home safe. I’m still trying to take all this in. You’re home and holding me, but it’s hard to believe.”

“Do you want me to pinch you?” I asked.

Riley laughed and broke away. “I need to sit down or something.”

He grabbed a stool at the bar and sat, leaning heavily on the counter. I followed him and took a seat next to him. He stretched an arm out toward me, and I folded my hand in his. His smile was contagious, and I didn’t bother trying not to smile. Riley made me too happy for that, and being home with him was the best possible gift.

“I need a drink. We should celebrate,” he said.

“You stay put. I’ll get us something to drink. Your bartending is done for the holiday,” I said.

“Okay. I got coffee made, not that anyone drinks it here.”

“I thought you wanted a drink?” I asked.

“Put some whiskey in it. We won’t go anywhere and can stay in the apartment upstairs.”

“No. I’m going to get us home, sober. Then, I’m going to take you to the bedroom, kiss you all over while ripping your clothes off before I swallow you whole.
