Chapter Seven

“What do you mean he just walked away and left?” Holly asked, standing by her stove with a hand on her hip.

Mary shrugged. “He hasn’t been back since. I couldn’t bring myself to go to the clubhouse.”

“This is all about Mac, and the fact you’re working with him?”

“Yeah, he asked me how I’d feel if he was around Lori, Lilah, and Emma.” Mary buried her head into her hands, sobbing.

“Sweetie, don’t cry.” Holly rushed to her side, pulling her into a hug. They had been friends for as long as she could remember. This was so embarrassing for Mary. She’d avoided Holly over the past couple of days. What woman wanted to admit that their husband had walked out?

“Starlight has been asking where he is. He hasn’t even called, and I don’t know what to do, or what to say.” She once again covered her face. “I hate this.”

“Tell me from the beginning exactly what happened,” Holly said, taking a seat at the table in the kitchen.

Mary told her about their arguments, and how Pike wanted her to end things with Mac, even though there was nothing going on, and she couldn’t believe for a second that he’d even think that, and yet he was.

She felt so broken.

“Sweetie, as much as I hate to say this, maybe you do need to see it from his perspective.”

“What do you mean?”

Before Holly could say anything, the door opened, and seconds later, Duke entered, with Drake by his side, holding his hand. “Perfect. Duke, baby, if I was to start up a business with Raoul, how would that make you feel?”

Mary gasped. Raoul and Holly had some history between them. Their history being, Raoul had taken Holly to prom, taken her virginity, and proceeded to tell everyone at the club about it. It had been a mortifying moment for Holly, and Mary recalled the time she’d been crying.

“It wouldn’t happen. You’ll do business with me. Don’t get me wrong, my shit with Raoul was settled, but I’d have to start questioning you and what you’re trying to do.” Duke looked at Holly, then at her. “What’s this about?”

“It’s different. You slept with Raoul. I never have with Mac.”

“Ah, that explains why Pike’s sulking like a fucking baby. What’s gotten into you two?” Duke asked.

“Pike left me.”

Duke looked shocked. “He left you?”

“Yep. He walked away three nights ago, and he hasn’t been back since.”

“Fuck! That explains the drinking, and the crap that is going on with him. Babe, you take Drake. I’m going to go and see Pike.”

“Why?” Mary asked.

“He may be a club brother, but there’s a reason he’s my VP. I trust him, and he’s my friend. This shit you got going down with Mac, it’s not fair to him, or to Mac.”

“It’s for the blog.”

“Screw the fucking blog, Mary. You’ve got more than enough people to fucking experiment on. You don’t see Holly going around chasing for that shit.” Duke shook his head. “You know what, it would probably do
