The next night, Onion rolled over in bed after experiencing one of the worst headaches of his life. Wondering what happened, he was shocked when he saw Tino sitting on the edge of his bed, his back in his direction.

Onion sat up, backed up against the headboard and asked, “Is everything okay?”

“You sleep late. Even for a Vampire.”

“I…I had a bad headache. One minute I was chilling with Angelina and the next I was in so much pain I—”

“I'm not here about how you feel, nigga! I'm here because the woman I love is no longer alive!”

Onion’s eyes widened. “What you mean?”

“Your friend killed JoJo last night.”

Onion glared. “That's impossible. He would never do that.”

“So, you calling me a liar?” He yelled.

“Of course not.”

“Then if I tell you he took my wife's life, understand this is not a fucking game! She was not a game! I loved that woman and now she’s gone.”

Up until that moment Onion thought they were invincible.

Leave it to Cage to find a way to kill.

Tino laughed once. “You know, this is the reason Vamps aren’t interested in changing others. If one person is killed and you are in The Fluid Line, you hurt too.”

His heart rocked in his chest. “I’m…I’m sorry, sir. I…I don’t know why he would do this. What do you need from me? What do you want me to do? Just say the word.”

“I need you to bring him to me.”

He frowned. “What…what will happen if I do?”

For the first time ever, Tino turned his head and looked him square in the eyes. “That's my business.”

“I understand, sir. I guess…I mean, I guess I’m asking if you’ll hurt him? I mean no disrespect. But I need to know.”

“I have plans for him, that have nothing to do with you.”

“Well, in that case, my answer is no.”

Slowly, Tino rose and stood over the man. “Do you know who I am?”

“For as long as I can remember, I admired you. When I was able to help you find your son, I jumped at the chance. So, when you ask me do I know you, I idolize you.”

“And having said that, you would have me demand a service and not carry it through?”

“I don't mean to, sir. It's just that he’s my friend. And I can't hurt my friend.”

Tino was livid but somewhat impressed.

“It's good to see you have the loyalty bone in your body. Because it's rare. But let's see how far it gets you. When I leave this room, you will no longer have access to blood. You will no longer be allowed in my clubs. And my men will follow you every day of your life. And as you do what you feel you need to do to survive, I want you to remember this day. And then, when you are miserable enough, I will take your life.”
