Chapter Four

It had been a long time since Rance had brought a man back to his home, a year at least. Sure, he'd had the occasional hookups at another dude's home but they weren't to be taken seriously. Hudson required a finesse Rance hadn't particularly used when trying to gather some one-on-one time. Working doubly hard to win his trust only made Rance desire it all the more and form some respect for Hudson. Still, home time had been reserved for serious relationships. He might not get that much from Hudson. He'd be open to it though, he'd always been optimistic about things of this nature. If only the guy loosened up a bit. If he wanted to break down the thick walls Hudson had around himself, it was definitely time to lay everything out for Hudson. No games, not with this one. Rance believed Hudson might simmer down on the anger if he showed a bit more of his secret lifestyle. Dangerous racing habits and street cred clearly didn't make Hudson notice him as anything other than a hooligan. That had to change and this seemed the only way to prove it.

The journey to his home had been nerve-wracking. On top of his reluctant date, he had to keep a watchful eye out for cops. Rance kept the music low to listen to the police scanner on his dash, just in case a state trooper hid along the highway somewhere. They had an hour's drive ahead of them but they weren't getting anywhere with his racer persona getting in the way. The silence of the car had been deeper knowing he had someone sharing it with him. Hudson hadn't said a word since he agreed to come along. He supposed the silence was acceptable. Rance was nervous about his own intentions, so he could only imagine the panic settling in Hudson. He wasn't sure he'd get anywhere with Hudson tonight but he wanted to try and he wanted to show him he wasn't limited in all the ways he thought. Rance was still butthurt over Hudson believing he cared about the limp and cane. Those things didn't matter to him, Hudson could be in a wheelchair like his mom had been and he'd still want to know everything him. He wasn't a shallow person though most people seemed to think he was for some reason. That is, until they got to know him.

Pulling up to the black iron gate, he rolled his window down, and reached out to enter his number into the keypad. Hudson started shifting beside him and when the gates opened, he pulled through knowing they'd soon be in his house and hopefully, his bed.

As he drove down the pebbled driveway, his mind began racing faster than the three hundred and forty-five horsepower at his feet. He could offer Hudson a drink, something to eat, they could engage in conversation. Should he turn the TV on? No, better to keep the distractions minimal. He didn't know what would agitate or please Hudson and that was worrisome.
