A couple hours pass without any sign of Brad. I’ve been hanging around Jake for the sake of some company. Jake seems like a pretty cool guy. I’ve gotten to know him a little while I wait for Brad to find me. I’m a little leery of parties since the night Ethan came to rescue me. I do not want to wind up in a situation like that again.

I finally find Brad after waiting another hour with Jake.

“Hey, babe. Sorry about that.”

I wave him off. “It’s okay.”

I am about to ask him if we can talk when Jake speaks up. “Hey, Alexis, you ever played beer pong?”

“Once.”

Jake hands me a paddle. “Good, I need a partner and your boyfriend sucks at this game.”

I arch my brow at Brad. “Really? Then I guess I need to show him how it’s played.”

A round of cheers erupt around the table as Jake and I step up. Chad and Nate end up being our opponents.

Nate and I are chosen to determine which team goes first. We begin our stare-down or “Eyes” as the rules call it. I keep my eyes locked on Nate’s as we both take our shot. Cheers from my end of the table erupt when mine sinks in the cup and Nate’s ball hits the edge and bounces off the table.

Jake high fives me. “I knew it was a good idea to pick you!”

Jake takes the first shot and it falls in perfectly. Chad groans and drinks the beer, tossing the cup aside.

Jake lets me take the next shot, which I make.

Our streak ends when Jake misses the next shot.

Chad and Nate are grinning like fools now.

“This is for you, Alexis,” Nate says as he takes the shot, landing it in the cup right in front of me.

Sighing, I pick up the cup and drink.

Unfortunately for us, they make the next four shots. I end up drinking three cups total.

With only five cups left compared to their eight, I knew we would have to have a long streak here.

I pull Jake back to plan. “Can I just shoot this time?”

Jake looks at me like I’m crazy, but agrees. He steps to the side so I can do my thing.

Tilting my head, to each side, I loosen the muscles in my neck.

Nate and Chad take one look at me and laugh, but I ignore them.

Turning around so my back is to them, I toss the ball behind me, sinking it in the middle cup.

I waste no time putting my next trick shot in motion. I turn to the side and throw the ball behind my back, watching it land in the cup in front.

I toss the next one effortlessly, hitting the nearest cup.

The crowd around us is loud, yet it doesn’t affect my next three shots.

Brad kisses my cheek. “You’re amazing!”

“Holy shit!” Jake exclaims when he notices our five cups to their, now, three cups. “Are you sure you’ve only done this once?”

My answer is to wink at Jake.

“Well played, Alexis, well played!”

Nate is up first and sinks the shot.
