CHAPTER 13

Little Miss (not so) Perfect

Tom sat with his back towards the door at his favorite French restaurant. He had arrived a little earlier than planned but, usually, Benny was the one waiting for him whenever they planned on meeting.

He glanced down at his watch and sighed.

He should probably apologize about his behavior towards Bianca, but this little word “sorry” was almost painful to say. He rather waited until the apology was no longer needed. He had glossed over necessary apologies with Benny and even Sophia in his life. Though his aunt had a habit of looking at him in a certain way which reminded him he still owed her an apology for speaking over her at a dinner party when he had been twelve years old. A shiver ran up his spine just thinking that Bianca might be like that too.

He was too deep in thought and didn’t pick up on the familiar woodsy scent that filled the restaurant. Only when Benny brought down his hand hard on his shoulder did Tom finally notice his childhood friend.

“Hey there, unicorn.”

Tom let out a growl while Benny slumped down on the chair opposite from him.

“Can you stop calling me that? It’s not that rare.”

“What, that you, the proclaimed bachelor, hero of the unmarried party girls and savior of the condom industry, have decided to marry? And not just anyone but an omega?” Benny let out a laugh and shook his head. “You, my friend, are even rarer than a unicorn… a duocorn.”

“Wouldn’t a duocorn just be a stag?”

Benny gave him a deadpan look. “Since when is a stag that sheds his antlers a horse?”

“Touché,” Tom grumbled and waved over the waiter.

“So, why did you want to meet me? Will I finally have the honor to meet the future Mrs. Carter?”

“No, not yet.”

“You tease me. I want to meet the girl who turned you. She must be your fucking soulmate or one hell of a lay for you to–”

“Don’t talk about her like that.” It didn’t sit right with Tom to let Benny degrade her into a fucktoy. Especially since the last thing Bianca seemed interested in was exchanging bodily fluids.

Benny leaned back in his chair and raised his hands in defense. “Sorry, Tom. Didn’t mean to insult your girl. It’s just so… unicorn.”

Tom huffed a laugh. “Idiot.”

The waiter finally arrived at their table and handed them the menus while taking their drink orders.

“I wanted to hit the gym afterwards so don’t eat anything too heavy, okay?”

Benny smirked as he skimmed the menu. “Just because you want to workout doesn’t mean I have to.”

“You are getting fat upstate. The gym would benefit you.”

There was a long moment of silence between the two men. They stared at each other as if challenging one another to speak first. Benny sniffed theatrically and wiped away an imaginary tear. “You always say such nice things to me, Tommy. No wonder you are going to marry soon.”

Another snorted laugh escaped Tom.

“By the way, how soon will you marry? I need to take one week off for the bachelor festivities and the actual main event.
