Chapter Eleven
#xa0;
Brendan went to the kitchen and grabbed some orange juice. He poured a couple of glasses and put them on a tray. He added a bowl of mixed fruit, freshly cut into small squares. Crackers and cheese were next, along with some cookies.
He grabbed the tray and headed back to the bedroom where his boy was sleeping. It seemed he was always waking Mike up with food. He stopped in the doorway again, watching the rise and fall of Mike’s chest. Mike had used the word ‘love’. Brendan hadn’t, but he felt it, felt the hugeness of what was between them.
It was amazing. And just a little scary.
Mike had slept hard, just overwhelmed and needy.
It was crazy. He didn’t know anything about who Mike really was. Where he lived, what he did, none of it. And yet, it made his entire body clench and his heart hurt to think of their time here being over. So, he was going to have to figure out how to convince Mike to stay. Not here of course, but with him.
He cleared his throat and brought his tray over to the bed. Mike could use something fresh, juicy.
Mike’s eyes flew open. “Oh. Oh, God. I’ve wasted our time. I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t apologize. You needed the sleep.” He set the tray down on the side table and sat next to Mike. His hands gravitated automatically to the soft, smooth skin.
“Besides, I don’t think three weeks is going to be long enough, do you?”
“No.” The words were immediate, gratifyingly so.
“Then you’re agreeable to this lasting beyond the island.” He hoped so. He needed it to, and he needed Mike.
“I have to tell you, I’m not…I mean, I’m not the most employed man on earth.”
Brendan repeated the words in his head, then he shook it. “I’m not sure what you’re trying to tell me.”
“I don’t have stuff. I don’t have a house, a job, just my bag.”
His heart went out to Mike, but he had a hunch that his boy was not looking for pity and wouldn’t respond well to it. “So, what you’re telling me is that you’re free to continue exploring this amazing thing between us.”
“Yes. I’ll find a job wherever. I can work construction, waiting tables.”
“I don’t care if you don’t. I just want us to be together.”
That felt like the only thing that was important.
“You have to think I’m goofy, but I’ve never fallen like this before.”
“If you’re goofy, then so am I. I’m not in the habit of inviting men to come live with me, but that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
“Yes. Where are we going?” So open, so willing.
“I live in Vancouver.”
He couldn’t wait to have Mike there with him.
“Okay.” Trusting man. “They told me you were a good man.”
“I am. They wouldn’t have let me have my fantasy if I wasn’t.”
“Good.” Mike sat up, groaning as he moved.
“Everything a little tender?” He petted Mike’s belly again.
“God, yes. I feel like I’ve been stretched all over.”
“Then I’ve been doing something right.” He grabbed a cherry and offered it.
