I ran angrily out of the kitchen, as I was unsure what I might do if I remained there, but I quickly cooled off in the living room. I had snapped and taken it too far. The majority of what I had said was a regurgitation of a sociology class I’d done poorly in, and I hadn’t really meant the last part. I didn’t hate the microwave. I’d said that in anger. I, personally, never would have spent any more time than necessary preparing food, or socializing, whether the microwave had ever been invented or not. I started to realize, then, that I had been projecting displaced feelings onto the oven and the microwave. I’d been avoiding the real issue.
