Heliopolis

In the watery chaos of Nun, no creation occurred. The first act of creation took place when the Creator Atum miraculously rose out of Nun from a lotus flower and stood on a raised mound he created, called the benben. This first act of creation kindled and brought light into the world. Atum became the sun and turned into Ra-Atum.

The sacred temple of Heliopolis was built over the primordial benben.

Atum was either a self-created god, or the child of Nun. According to some accounts, Ra-Atum himself was the benben that arose from Nun. He became the sun god and lord of Heliopolis.
