Building permits indicate an estimated cost (including signage) at $245,200, however, West Coast Theatres claimed to have sunk $1 million into the construction and decoration of the 2,177-seat Grand Lake Theatre. The Armstrong-Power Studios (Robert E. Power) oversaw interior decoration and curtain and stage equipment installation. Indirect lighting was by Harry L. Weber, specializing in theatres and amusement enterprises; seating by C. F. Weber and Company, San Francisco; and color illumination by Electric Specialty Company using “Reco Color Hoods.” The main auditorium is flanked on either side by Corinthian columns, organ chambers are draped to look like private balconies, and it has an illuminated domed ceiling 75 feet in diameter. In this early 1940s view, the side wall landscape murals have been painted over. In 1981, the upstairs balcony and loge section was sectioned off with a 29-inch thick wall to create a second auditorium. Great care was taken to not disturb the architectural character of the theatre. The downstairs seating area has been refurbished and the colors brightened.
