Chapter Ten

Sitting at his desk at work, Brock flipped through the New

York telephone directory pages. He’d phoned every Daniel

Wolf that was listed without success. Closing the cover,

tossing it on the floor by his desk, Brock stood at the

window looking out at the expanse of skyline and the ebb

and flow of yellow taxis below. The markets hadn’t opened

yet and he had time to stare and think. The only plan he had

was to follow Daniel once he left his penthouse. Then

Brock would see his house, most likely his wife, and his

children. Did he want to know? Shouldn’t he just accept this

situation as is? How odd was it that he was the needy one?

The one craving more and having expectations?

“Danny…what’s the real story?” Hearing Faith opening

a drawer at her desk, he spun around to watch her. “Good

morning, Faith.”

“Good morning, Brock. I have your latte.”

“Oh?” Brock approached the doorway. “You don’t have

to do that anymore.”

“I don’t mind. I pass the stand on my way.”

He set twenty dollars on her desk and took the coffee.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Anything else you need?”

“Soon. The markets are just opening here. Let me take a

look at Europe.” He sat at his desk and got busy, Daniel
