Chapter Five
At the end of the night, Roman and I were forced to say our good-byes to everybody. We were leaving earlier than everybody else, like some couples did, so that we could start our honeymoon and not stick around until the last bar straggler decided to go home. After all, I think everybody was expecting us to go and consummate our marriage, and we definitely had that on our minds. Roman hadn’t said anything, but I saw the way he looked at me as a few more drinks entered his system. He was in the mood, and I was ready to pounce as my hormones and emotions were raging like a violent hurricane. The problem, though, was that we couldn’t just walk out the door like everybody else. Even if we did, we were staying upstairs in the hotel, and not far away where we couldn’t be bothered. The last thing we needed was my father knocking on the door as Roman’s piece was knocking at my back door.
Our guests, somehow either knowing we were close to leaving, or just saying good-bye because they were too tired to stick around any longer, came about and began to say their good-byes. You know the way it was, with all of the long-lost relatives needing to hug and kiss you for they didn’t know when they’d get to see your beautiful face again. Great-Aunt Pearl sucked on my cheek like some kind of parasitic leech, as one of my cousins was pestering Roman about problems his computer was having, as if Roman was tech support. Roman really had a lot of bravery and guts for marrying into this family.
“Is this almost over?” Roman whispered to me as the line began to dwindle down.
“I hope so,” I whispered out of the side of my mouth.
Twenty minutes passed, and the last of the people who were going to stop and say good-bye finished up. There were still many people, likely not even knowing we were leaving for they were so into dancing and mingling, not even bothering to come and say good-bye. I would say I was offended, for they were at my wedding, but at this point. all I wanted was Roman, and them coming to make small talk just made me ache for Roman even more. If one more old relative came up then I was going to have to jump on Roman and ride him like Seabiscuit.
“Well you two, I guess this is good-bye, We had a great time, and your father and I will take care of everything for the rest of the night. You two rest, and have a safe trip tomorrow,” my mother said.
“Yeah, you have a very early flight. Make sure you eat something so you don’t get sick,” my father said.
“I will, Dad,” I said.
My parents gave us hugs, and I told Jillian and Tara good-bye, who were very enthralled dancing with their sugar daddies. I was surprised that the old man Tara was with
