All Expectations are a Trap
A mental projection, pursuing a particular achievement,
A certain result, anticipated by the thinking process;
Psychologically, any expectation has its source in
the âselfâ,
Ceaselessly egocentric, in every single action.
Expectations, therefore, are a trap, they strengthen
the known,
The âegoâ is always present, enhancing its self-importance;
In everything it says or thinks, with each activity,
It is fed continuously; the âselfâ fortifies its stronghold.
When we start our journey with a purpose in mind,
We donât become free of the âegoâ, on the contrary,
We give it strength, amplifying it.
This is what we achieve through methods and faiths,
More and more burdened by our own powerlessness.
The climate in the world today demonstrates too well
How detrimental is effort and results achieved through
thought.
The hope of being transformed has catastrophic effects,
There are pitfalls every step of the way â failure is
the norm.
âSelf-knowingâ is a completely different path,
We start from facts, by listening and watching,
We donât have any goals â only a simple awareness
Of the Reality of Life, in perfect relaxation.
Such a simple, disinterested encounter,
Is, through itself, action and true fulfillment.
The âselfâ disintegrates â all traps are shattered,
Its cunning energies are gradually eliminated.
The moments encountered in this manner, persistently,
Will finally cause the great event:
The shattering of the âegoâ â a state of Enlightenment;
Through it, man reaches sublime Integration.
Expectation is a mental projection, pursuing a particular result, meant to be fulfilled in a certain moment in the future. This anticipation is fueled and initiated by the structure of the âpersonal selfâ, whose activity is always selfish. From the very start, expectation defines itself as a trap, enhancing the importance of the âegoâ.
Psychologically, every time we initiate an activity where we pursue an ideal or a goal to reach, we are merely the âegoâ or âpersonal selfâ in action. Each movement will increase its dimensions, as well as its importance. This is what the ordinary man does when he resorts to methods, faiths, concepts, with a so-called spiritual goal in mind.
Spiritual becoming, as well as the faithfulâs hope of saving their souls as a result of effort and willpower, are and will always be true pitfalls, with deceitful, misleading effects. If we compare this activity with its results and outcome, the certainty of our statements becomes obvious and undeniable.
Can our mind produce radical transformations in itself? To this question we can answer either by looking within ourselves or by looking around us. The correct answer depends, nevertheless, on our perfect objectivity. Are we truly objective? Are we honest enough to look within and discover the masks we often resort to in order to hide our inner ugliness?
âSelf-knowingâ allows no compromises and no excuses. When we put it into practice, we will always start from facts â from what happens âhere and nowâ.
The simple awareness of the movement of the mind, structured in time-space, shows us clearly, accurately and without any doubts who we really are.
Such a simple and disinterested encounter is, through itself, a transformative action. The âselfâ dissolves, exposed by all-encompassing Attention; all the traps are shattered and the cunning energies â whose prisoners we are â will be gradually eliminated.
