After supper and evening prayers I still had not said anything to Willa, who had been looking strange all day but that is understandable since she is a person very easily made sick by wasp stings. I was expecting an announcement at supper about me being the Seer, but that did not happen. I think it must be because of the funeral, but in my opinion the announcement should have been made to balance the sadness about sister Belinda. Sister Luka has not been thinking about things clearly because her old bedfriend has died, so this is understandable and I forgive her, but surely she will say something before seventh night, which would be the perfect time to be announcing the new Seer chosen by Selene. I must be patient. Keeping the secret to myself is good training for being Seer because it makes me feel strong, knowing something like this, and the Seer should not be an excited little girl, more like a grown-up woman, very calm about things that are important.

I have penned a lot of Selenes so far today to catch up and am working on the secret book again. I was thinking that in years to come people will be able to read this book and know about how I became Seer. All the big sisters will read it for inspiration and the High Sisters that come after me will read aloud from it to instruct the newest little sisters, and these will not be allowed to be taken away by their parents until they are sixteen. It is a disgrace that this has happened, and it has just happened again, with two more families driving their wagons up to the church and taking their girls away. I heard the fuss and shouting and went outside to see, and this time it was two of the youngest being dragged away even if sister Luka was arguing with the father of one of them and sister Briony was talking with the mother of another. It made no difference and the girls were taken away, which means another day of learning has been disrupted for all by selfish stupid people that do not know what is best for their daughters. It is the men doing this, making their wives do something they have been trained not to do, which is turn against the church that all these women were educated by and given the power of choice when it came time to pick a husband. Without sister Winona, blessed be her name, none of these wives and mothers would have been given a chance to be happy. And now they are letting their stupid husbands tell them what to do and taking away all our little sisters, and when they have all gone what will be left? Of course stupid people cannot see this. What I would do is banish some of these men, the worst of them, make them go away out of our valley and be stupid somewhere else where they can do no harm to their own children like this.
