Chapter 5

Julia awoke the next morning feeling blissful. The sun beamed through her studio window, but it was Vlad’s body pressed up against her that sent a ray of heat rocketing through her chest.

She nestled herself more deeply into his arms.

“Good morning,” he murmured.

“Morning.” She kissed his forearm. “Bet I don’t smell like roses today.”

“And but why?”

“Because I smell like you. ” She rolled over on top of him, straddling his chest with her knees. “I smell like you all over—like hot, steamy sex with you.”

Her hair flounced off her shoulders, framing her face. He admired her body as she towered over him. She was beautiful, even early in the morning and without a speck of makeup. He cupped her breasts in his hands.

“I have never seen you so wild and free. You climb on top of me like a tigress.”

“Then it’s you who took me out of the cage. No one’s ever made love to me like that before.” She let out a playful growl as Vlad ran his fingers through her hair and down her back. “I like that. A tigress. The funny thing is, I feel like one.” She bared her teeth again, then threw her head back and laughed.

“I like your teeth.”

“The better to bite you with, my dear.”

He stroked the side of her face and she nipped at him lightheartedly.

“I like this side of you,” he said.

She caught his hand and brought it around to her mouth, where she nibbled the tips of his fingers, one by one.

“I like it, too,” she confessed.

“Well, my tigress. What if you come to New York with me tomorrow? I have business to attend to but prefer if you accompany me.”

Julia ground her hips against his and felt the heat rise in waves from his body. She loved being on top of him like this—it gave her the feeling of control, and as she was fast discovering, control was a kind of aphrodisiac.

“I’d prefer to accompany you, too,” she said. “But I’ve got to work. No vacation time for this girl.”

He interlaced his hand through hers, thinking what fine, slender fingers she had. Then he pressed them to his lips.

“Do not worry,” he murmured. “I have arranged it with your management.”

She blinked. “At Snowmass?”

“At Snowmass and also the school. You are mine, Julia Whittaker. Mine for the week. That is, if you wish to be.”

She lowered herself down on top of him until her breasts brushed his lips.

“It depends,” she said saucily. “Will you be so busy with your business that you’ll neglect me?”

He ran his tongue across one nipple, sending a shiver right through her.

“Come with me to New York,” he said, “and neglected is the last thing you will feel.”

By the following morning, she was beginning to understand what he meant. Alexei drove them to a private airport just outside of Aspen, and when Julia asked if she’d have to pay extra to check her bag, Vlad laughed out loud.

“We are not flying on American Airlines,” he said, curling his lip in pretend disdain.
