JAILBREAK

Sam Cleave had no intention of being a prisoner forever. The quest might not have gone in the direction that he expected it to, but that didn’t mean that he had to be okay with where he ended up. He didn’t like being a prisoner or under the control of other people. Freedom was important, and he was intent on getting his back.

This government shadow organization was obviously a real threat, so he would have to be cautious, but he had gotten himself out of binds before. The trick was to get himself out along with Riley and Marvin Hicks. That probably wasn’t going to be the easiest thing to do, but he would feel guilty just freeing himself. Riley was a friend and colleague; he might not have liked Marvin, but it didn’t feel right to leave that alien expert in the clutches of people that spent their careers keeping people like him quiet.

They hadn’t handcuffed Sam or anything. He was just alone in that room, waiting for Agent Manners to come back and keep asking him more questions. He hated those conversations they had and was ready to never have to partake in those ever again. He wouldn’t be able to stand being questioned by such a judgmental prick. He just needed to figure out a way out where he could get away without any real issues.

Sam tried the door a few times, but naturally, it was locked. They weren’t just going to let one of their prisoners walk right out at his leisure. It would have been a fortunate oversight for him if they forgot to lock the door. He gave it a few more tugs and pushes, hoping that it would miraculously open, but alas, he wasn’t that lucky.

He could hear footsteps coming down the hall and took a few steps back toward the opposite wall, doing his best to make it look like he hadn’t just been trying to break himself out. It wouldn’t exactly be shocking for him to want to do that, but he would prefer not to raise suspicions. He heard the door unlock and open and expected to see Agent Manners again, but instead found two strangers entering the room. They were dressed in suits just like Agent Manners had been—his fellow agents, no doubt—but they were not nearly as chatty as he had been. They didn’t try to ask him any questions or start an interrogation. They just came in and immediately grabbed hold of him, escorting him out of the room. It wasn’t exactly the way that Sam planned to get out of that cell, but at least he was finally out.

They led him out of his cell into the narrow corridor. It felt good to be out of that room and restored some hope that he could actually get out of the situation that they found themselves in. The element of surprise was the key, and he couldn’t squander it, but now he had been given just enough breathing room to try something.
